Cash or accrual: reading Income and Expenditure
Where to find it
Open Accounts. Use the Cash and Accrual switch at the top of Income and Expenditure.
Cash
Counts income when money is received, and expenses when they are paid. It shows what you actually had.
Accrual
Counts income when you send an invoice, and expenses when they happen. It shows what the business earned in the month.
Charter payments
When you confirm a charter payment, the trip and invoice are created. A fully paid invoice counts on both views. A refunded charter is cancelled and no longer counts.
Tip
Look at cash to run the week, and accrual to judge the month. Ask your accountant which one you need for tax.
